There are a few important things to know about essiac and children. Essiac is safe for children. However, the serving size of essiac tea for children should be modified according to bodyweight and health condition. There is no reason why children cannot take essiac tea.
If your child up to 15 lbs.
USE 1/4 oz. (7 mL) of tea twice per day. If well tolerated, work your way up to 1/2 oz. (14 mL) of tea twice per day.
If your child weighs 15-35 lbs.
USE 1/2 ounce twice per day. If well tolerated, work your way up to 1 oz. of tea twice per day.
If your child weighs 35-55 lbs.
USE 1 ounce twice per day. If well tolerated, work your way up to 2 oz. of tea twice per day.
If your child weighs 55-85 lbs.
USE 2 ounces twice per day. If well tolerated, work your way up to 3 oz. of tea twice per day.
If your child weighs 85 lbs. or more,
USE 3 ounces twice per day. Work your way up to 3 oz. of tea three times per day.
Be sure to give essiac on an empty stomach. That means no food 2 hours before or 1 hour after the essiac serving. However, you can add fruit or vegetable juice (all natural, no sugar added juice) to the essiac. You can also add a squeeze of lemon or stevia to the tea. Be sure to serve the tea cold (do not re-heat).
Most children will not like essiac the first time. However, if they try it a few times most take it just fine. Please encourage them to take it in spite of the taste. Reassure them that they will get used to it and maybe even grow to crave it very soon.
